Dr. Lisa Kelleher obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois, with specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Her doctoral project focused on learner context analysis for development of a continuing education course for registered nurses to expand their engagement skills with patients in severe emotional distress.  Prior to completing her nurse practitioner certification, Dr. Kelleher worked as a Registered Nurse in multiple settings, both psychiatric and critical care. She obtained her original nursing degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. She also hold an Associate in Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Forsyth Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a Bachelor of Science in Community and Social Justice from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina; and a Master of Science in Human Services from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Her Master’s thesis studied gender disparities in U.S. refugee and immigration policy.


In addition to her work as an RN and Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Kelleher served in the National Service Corps, Americorps Vista program from 2009-2010 working as a grant writer and community organizer in a program for adults with developmental disabilities. She holds certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Virginia and practices in the Adult COS section of the HNNCSB.
