How are interviews conducted?
Most interviews are conducted via Zoom by a three person interview panel. The selected candidate from the interviews will be contacted by a member of the H-NNCSB Recruitment Staff.
We offer extenstive benefits, an optional savings plan, and all full-time staff are enrolled in the Virginia pension plan.
H-NNCSB offers a choice of the Anthem Healthkeepers Open Access HMO HRA or PPO HRA plan. An HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) is provided to assist the employee with the annual deductible. Vision benefits are included with both plans. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
H-NNCSB offers a comprehensive dental plan with Anthem. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board participates in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). VRS consists of three retirement plans and enrollment is determined by the employee’s membership date. All full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the following VRS plans upon completion of the initial six (6) month probationary period. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
H-NNCSB employee are eligible to save, tax deferred, for their retirement with a 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan through VALIC. This benefit is available to part-time employees working 20 hours per week.
H-NNCSB offers employer-paid group life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D insurance equal to 2x the employee’s annual earnings to a maximum of $400,000. This policy also includes $5,000 spouse and $2,500 child dependent (birth to 19 years or 25 years if full-time student) coverage. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
Additional life coverage may be purchased in $10,000 increments up to a maximum of $100,000. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
H-NNCSB offers full-time employees, hired after 1/1/2015 and who will be participating in the VRS Hybrid Retirement plan, both short and long term disability insurance once the employee has been a participant in the VRS Hybrid Retirement plan for one year (18 months after full-time employment date). In the event you become disabled from a non-work-related injury or sickness, disability insurance benefits are provided as a source of income. You are not eligible to receive short-term disability benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
H-NNCSB offers full-time employees short and long term disability insurance. Employees are covered by these disability plans the first of the month following 6 months of full-time employment. Once covered by the disability plans, employees who become sick or injured due to a non-work-related injury or sickness will receive 60% of their earnings beginning on the 30th calendar day. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
H-NNCSB employees may join the YMCA, OneLife or Riverside Fitness Center at a discounted cost. This benefit is available to part-time employees working 20 hours per week. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offered through Optima provides no-cost, confidential assistance whenever a problem or issue negatively affects an employee or their eligible family members – whether it’s at home, relationships with coworkers, job performance or satisfaction, or general well-being. This program offers assistance with a broad range of life issues including, but not limited to: stress, job concerns, depression, relationship or family difficulties, parenting issues, grief and loss, substance abuse, financial concerns, etc. Five (5) visits available for each concern. This benefit is available to employees working 40 hours per week.
In accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act requirements, covered employees are provided up to twelve (12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for medical reasons; for the birth or adoption of a child; for the care of a child, spouse, or parent who has a serious health condition; or for military family leave for qualifying exigencies. Covered employees are provided up to twenty-six (26 weeks of unpaid leave in a single twelve (12 month period for military caregiver leave of a qualifying service member.
Maternity leave is administered under the provisions of the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 and can be covered by short-term disability, annual leave balances and leave without pay. Any absence prior to or after the birth, which is deemed medically necessary by a physician, will be treated as an illness, and the policies regarding sick leave, annual leave, short-term disability and Family Medical Leave Act will apply.
The posting of machine readable files (MRF’s) are in response to the Federal Transparency in Coverage (TIC) Rule. This requires health insurers and group health plans to create machine readable files (MRFs) that contain the negotiated rates for in-network providers and allowed amounts derived from historical claims for out-of-network providers. Important Note: Each of the files is in JSON format and may be as large as one Terabyte in file size. Please ensure you have the required memory capacity, hardware, and software capabilities before attempting to download.
The machine readable files are formatted to allow researchers, regulators, and application developers to more easily access and analyze data.

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board provides intern/practicum experiences to highly qualified students to aid in producing competent professionals in the behavioral healthcare field.
Internship/practical experiences will be offered annually, as agency resources permit.
H-NNCSB accepts applications during April and May for Fall semesters and in October and November for Spring Semesters.
While most internships are at the Masters level, there are some bachelor level internships available.
